Oklahoma Disability Benefits
At Social Security Law Center, we’ve seen many Oklahoma residents struggling to make ends meet because of an illness or injury that keeps them out of work. As one of the leading social security law firms in Oklahoma City, we can help you get the benefits you need and deserve. We understand the bureaucratic process of applying for these benefits, and we’ll help you present a strong case that increases your chances of getting an approval.
Do I Qualify for Social Security Disability Benefits?
All Americans with disabilities can access the social security disability benefits, which are tax-funded financial aid programs set aside to ensure that workers who are unable to make a living due to severe injury or illness can receive a monthly allowance to make ends meet. There are two main options to choose from Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income. Our lawyers can advise you on which benefits you qualify for or whether you can access both depending on your medical condition, employment history, and age, among other factors. For instance, if you have paid enough income taxes over the years, you may qualify for SSDI. If you haven’t worked enough to qualify for SSDI, you may still be entitled to SSI if you have a serious condition and are in dire need of financial support.
What does it mean to have a disability?
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has set aside three rules to help determine disability:
- One must be unable to do the work they did because of the medical condition
- One cannot adjust to other work because of the medical condition
- The disability is expected to last for at least one year or to result in death
It is also important to note that under social security, you can only receive benefits for total disability. Benefits are not paid out for short-term or partial disability. This strict definition of disability set by the SSA is based on the assumption that working families can cater to their basic needs in the event of short-term disabilities by accessing other resources such as worker’s compensation, insurance, and savings.
When filing your initial application, we will help ensure that all supporting documents are properly arranged, checked for errors and that your application is thorough and complete.
